Certificate in Sports Coaching

Sport and athleticism has a significant impact on youth development physically, emotionally, socially, and cognitively. Whether working professionally or in a volunteer capacity, coaches are charged with this development.  Competitive and adventure sport is an integral part of many student’s Saint Michael’s College experience, and many choose to continue their engagement in athletics after graduation. Therefore, we have created an opportunity for students be leaders in their field through the Certificate in Sports Coaching (CSC).

The CSC is accessible to all Saint Michael’s College students (undergraduate and graduate). The certificate program is also open to community members who hold an undergraduate degree and are interested in expanding, or consolidating their professional credentials. This portfolio-based, hybrid program combines classroom learning, practicum, National Governing Body Certification, and health and wellness certification.  The CSC is divided into two tracks: Competitive Sport and Adventure Sport.

Watch the video for some information about the program.

Students who enter the program will be expected to complete a semester-long Mountain Leadership Course, Wilderness First Responder Certification, obtain two National Body Awards/Certifications, complete The Coach as Educator course, and develop a professional portfolio.
